I've seen Crowded House about 6 times in concert. I go because they do such a good job of interacting with one another, and, bantering with the crowd, too. But more importantly, they're actually one of the better bands you'll see live, to be honest. Neil Finn is absolutely a master song-writer, with lyrics that resonate for everyone. He might be from a small town in New Zealand, but his experiences with his life & relationships are things, even from the other side of the world, you can relate to in some stage of your life. How these guys aren't getting more accolades here in the US is beyond me, but then again, that's how Neil prefers it to be - under the radar.
I'd say that about 55%-60% of their music is of a slower tempo. However, with this particular show, they 'rocked out' as best as CH can - they probably only played about 5 of their slower tunes. Played for 2.5 hours, & Matt Sherrod was really free & loose - he jammed & improvised on tunes, which was good. First time he toured with CH he was staying steady, this time, he was way more comfortable on the drums - he even smiled a few times. Neil was dressed in a black suit, looked good, didn't even take off his jacket. His voice is still top-notch, he got rid of that silly mustache, and really jammed on his guitar with plenty of solos.
Make sure you see these guys the next time they come up to our hemisphere...
